Joint signatory letter sent to Ban Ki-moon
The UN Secretary General is due to present a report to the General Assembly this summer on future generations and intergenerational solidarity, which was one of the decisions made at Rio+20 last year.
On April 24th we sent an open letter to Ban Ki-moon to share our views on the scale of the ambition required from the report to help guide the UN and its Member States to create fair conditions for all future generations.
The letter was co-signed by 26 organisations and alliances, representing hundreds of organisations around the world.
The call made at Rio+20 for the report shows there is a clear need to increase awareness on intergenerational justice and equity and methods to embed long-term thinking in decision-making and across governance structures and systems. The report should help to identify practical and implementable models to do this.
